Homeless

Today, The Lovely Becky and I said goodbye to our house:

It was our first home. Owning a first home is a lot like having sex for the first time. You're excited but nervous at the same time, eager to join the club but not completely sure what to do. You say things like, "I don't know the first thing about laying pipe," "Are you sure it's okay to drill here?" and "If I put that in my mouth, will I get lead poisoning?" The more time you spend in that house, though, the more it feels like home, to the point where you feel totally comfortable walking around it with no pants on. But today, if I walk around that house pantless, the new owners will have me arrested. That makes me sad.

We now begin our trek toward The North Pole the Upper Peninsula, which apparently is the hot place for Sasquatches. If you happen to read a story, "Michigan man dragged from home by Bigfoot; Guitar Hero controller all that remains," you can bet it's me. However, it's not time to turn the lights out just yet, as we're coming back home to the IC for most of July. So I'll save the Top Ten Tuesdays: What Will We Miss About Iowa list for another few weeks.

For now, I'll just keep doing what I've been doing all week, humming a bit of The Smithereens' "House We Used to Live In."

Aw. Sorry, Brando. I know that feeling. I ran across an old photo of our first house yesterday and got all sad.

Onward and upward, though! Good luck, kids!

Looks like a sweet home. Do I remember that you were in Iowa City? Or did I just imagine that? Looks like an IC house.

A move to the UP won't be bad - a new adventure - weirdos and freaks up there in ways both good and bad - new adventures to be had.

We had a lot of good times in that house: Christmas parties, baby showers, Lord of the Rings marathons, ... but best of luck to you both in the UP. I'm sure your new home is just as lovely.

What? Already? Wah. We barely had time to be neighbors. It you have time, get a hold of me when you're back in July.

I just got back from my 1/2 cross country trip including a stay in Mackinac, and I can attest that the Upper Peninsula has the biggest, juiciest bugs in all of America. (and a small part of Canada.) They are still stuck to my car after two washings.

Does the new house feel a lot like a new lover? A new lover that won't stop until you give it all your money?

I'll be there to console TLB and remove the things that remind her most of you after you are mauled by Sasquatch, your XBOX 360 and Guitar Hero controller. I will give them to a worthy cause, me.

Sad and exciting. I am sure you can fill the new house with excellent memories (and righteous air guitar). I have said goodbye to two houses, the new one always turns out okay too (but it WILL cost you).

That looks like it was a great house. I'm sure there's another one waiting for you up in Sasquatche's hood... one waiting for you to go pantless.

Thanks for the well wishes. Everything is actually going pretty smoothly. Blogging will probably be sporadic this week, but the regularly scheduled jerking should resume next week.

Hope the move goes smoothly. Both congrats and sorry.

I am soo jealous your home sold quickly. Mine has been on the market three weeks and is getting painted today. Let's hope you send me some good Iowa luck.
