Rock In Peace

The world's a little less interesting without Ronnie James Dio in it. The first time I ever heard him was watching the video for "The Last in Line," which also doubles as the best episode of Voyagers ever.

It's funny because, while I was not really a huge Dio fan, I was a huge fan of Dio, if that makes sense. He embodied everything that I found entertaining about heavy metal. So R.I.P, RJD.

That Ripley piece killed me. Dammit, I didn't WANT to respect RJD.

Thunda, thanks for the link to Ripley's post.

ZRM, thank you for the eMusic tip. I wonder if Dio was a recent addition because I thought I had checked just a couple months ago. I have enough this month for the Foreigner compilation and Holy Diver, and I'll snag Last in Line next month.

I also played Sabbath's Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules today. That cat could sing.

I went for the Dio retrospective, which was a double album for 12 credits and had stuff from those 2 Sabbath albums.

Pretty hard not to love a guy who has enough of a sense of humor to do
this.

ZRM, that compilation is a good deal, but I already have half of that stuff because I have the Sabbath stuff. So I did all of Holy Diver, a few tracks off Last in Line, and then the Foreigner comp.

Snag, I love that video. Dio had a good sense of humor about himself.

All my metal friends have been freaking out about Dio's death all over FB. Except for Lemmy, he was one of my favorite metal cartoon characters.

I have to say I am enjoying the Dio stuff WAY too much.

I can feel my IMS standing erode by the second.

I think those Sabbath albums hold up pretty well. The sound is a bit dated, but the vocals and music hit pretty hard. Holy Diver is good for the same reason -- Dio sounds great and his band flat out rocks.

My shame is that I saw eMusic had Winger, and I just had to have "Seventeen." Terrible, I know, but I always liked the music in that song.

sometimes I worry about you. Do you think you will be able to re-integrate into Chicago culture?
